Tennis Avenue Ashgrove- Bridge Replacement- Start of Construction

20 July 2017

Brisbane City Council is pleased to announce replacement of the Tennis Avenue Bridge at Ashgrove will start mid to late July 2017. The existing bridge is nearing the end of its serviceable lifespan, and will now be replaced to maintain the crossing in a safe state. The replacement also provides the opportunity to improve the accessibility and longevity of the crossing.

Works will involve:
• piling foundations for the new bridge
• lifting the pre-fabricated new bridge into place
• realigning shared paths to connect to new bridge
• removing the old bridge in sections
• landscaping and revegetation of disturbed areas
• LED lighting

The project is expected to be completed by December 2017, weather and site conditions permitting.

Construction will take place between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

Local residents and businesses may experience some construction noise, dust, low levels of vibration and increased activity around the work site, including the presence of construction vehicles and equipment. Council will use water trucks where necessary to suppress dust.

Every effort will be made to maintain access across the existing bridge, however in the event that the existing bridge is required to be closed before the new bridge is opened, detour signage will be in place for the duration of the closure.

Tennis Avenue will be temporarily closed between Park Avenue and 32 Tennis Avenue for the duration of the works. Full access will be maintained via Frobisher Street and Park Avenue. A portion of the adjoining park between Tennis Avenue and Enoggera Creek will also be temporarily closed and used as a site laydown area. Signage and temporary traffic measures will be in place to direct motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to take the appropriate route during construction.

Council has identified up to seven trees which need to be removed as part of this project. These trees will be removed in consultation with a Council arborist. Council is committed to minimising any impact on the environment and will undertake offset planting and landscaping after construction.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience while we complete these works. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during construction. Advance notification of particularly noisy works or major access changes will be provided to properties within the works area. Please find attached the project plan for further information.
